At least eight individuals have been confirmed dead following a deadly attack by suspected armed Fulani militias on farmers in the Chinku community of Wukari Local Government Area, Taraba State, close to the Taraba–Benue border.
The incident, which has sparked renewed concerns over the safety of rural dwellers in conflict-prone regions, occurred when assailants—armed with firearms and machetes—launched a violent assault on farmers working in their fields. The attack is the latest in a series of violent clashes that have plagued communities in the Middle Belt region of Nigeria.

According to information gathered by Zagazola Makama, a renowned counter-insurgency expert, a team of security personnel dispatched to the scene discovered the lifeless bodies of the victims. The deceased were identified as:

All of the victims belonged to the Tiv ethnic group, a community that has frequently found itself at the center of farmer-herder conflicts in the region. Reports indicate that the victims were either shot or brutally hacked to death.
The corpses were transported to Iorna Clinic in Jootar, Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State, where they were officially confirmed dead and subsequently handed over to their grieving families for burial.

In response to the attack, local security authorities have called for an emergency meeting with the Ardo (leader) of the Fulani community in Chinku. The meeting, held at the Wukari Local Government Secretariat, focused on urging community leaders to aid in identifying the perpetrators and to prevent any retaliatory violence.
Authorities emphasized the importance of peaceful coexistence and the rule of law, cautioning against further bloodshed or communal reprisals.
